Photographed in 1981

A major exhibition held over three days in the spring of 1981 highlighted the history and heritage of the town and attracted several thousand visitors to the Red Hall. It was staged jointly by the Civic Society and the Royal British Legion (Bourne branch) and featured many aspects of life in the locality from past times.

The official opening was performed on Friday 2nd May by the Earl of Ancaster who was president of both organisations and among the guests were Councillor John Wright (chairman of South Kesteven District Council), although the Mayor of Bourne, Councillor George Houghton was away and unable to attend. After the ceremony, Lord Ancaster was presented with a commemorative paperweight bearing the Civic Society crest and Royal British Legion Diamond Jubilee medal from Fred Archer, chairman of the Bourne branch.
