North Road

One of the largest houses in North Road is No 40, a grand and spacious residence standing in its own grounds and built in 1906 by Dr John Galletly who had moved to the area a few years previously and who subsequently used it as his home and surgery. His son, also Dr John Galletly, who succeeded him, remained there until he died in 1993 at the of 94 when the building was acquired as the Galletly Group Practice that opened in 1996.

Galletly Practice in North Road

The Galletly home and surgery after modernisation in 1996 (above) although the extensive gardens have remained relatively unchanged.

The property was modernised and greatly extended for its new role and although some of the gardens were used in the development, mainly for car parking, they have remained relatively untouched.

Victorian terraced houses of red brick with blue slate roofs can be found in many parts of Bourne, built during the late 19th century for middle class families and still in demand today such as here in Elm Terrace, an attractive cul-de-sac off North Road.
