South Road in past times

South Road circa 1920

The approach road into Bourne from the south is the main A15, a busy trunk
road today but in past times a quiet and leafy thoroughfare. The photograph
above comes from a picture postcard published circa 1920 and shows the
tree-lined verges that made this a pleasant place to be. The white gates of the
railway crossing can be seen ahead and it was here that traffic was held up as
trains from Spalding crossed the road on their way into the railway station
sited alongside the Red Hall.
