Willoughby Road in past times

This is part of the old town which was known as Eastgate and until recent years, most of the properties here were two and three centuries old. The district, which included the Eastgate we known today, was almost a separate entity to Bourne, with its owns shops, school and church, but all have now gone and the entire area is now purely residential.

These photographs were taken around 1900 and give a glimpse of what Willoughby Road was like a hundred years ago. Few of the properties remain and those that do have been changed out of all recognition but whether it is for the better is a matter of conjecture.
