The BRM civic reception

The success of Raymond Mays and his BRM in becoming the first all-British car to win the world championship in 1962 with the company's leading driver, Graham Hill, at the wheel was marked by a civic reception at the Corn Exchange in March 1963, given by the former Bourne Urban District Council.

It was an important occasion for the town, held at the Corn Exchange with many important guests and covered by BBC Television, when Hill was presented with a silver salver for his achievement. The evening began with many speeches from the platform and Sir Alfred Owen accepted an inscribed scroll from Councillor Florence Tipler, chairman of Bourne Urban District. The formalities were followed by an evening of dancing and socialising, the guests including many civic dignitaries and workers associated with BRM.
